Agĩkũyũ Cultural Tour At Tũrĩ A Mũmbi | Culture & Heritage Tours

Explore the rich Agikuyu culture with a 5-hour tour at Turi a Mumbi Heritage Centre. Immerse yourself in the history, customs, and traditions.

We invite you to join us and enjoy a tour at our Gĩkũyũ homestead and get to experience a well-curated Art and Cultural space.

The experience starts at 11.00 am over a kaihũri (calabash) of hot traditional fermented porridge our guests are entertained by the center’s traditional folk music as we warm up for the tour.

Cultural Experience

A tour of the space with the history of the Agĩkũyũ informally explained, followed by an opportunity to see and experience the Agĩkũyũ way of life through art displayed in the space. Later the guests get to experience “Gatitũ,” our gentle trail for the sighting of Mũgumo Mũũmbi, a sacred Agĩkũyũ spiritual tree as the chirp to the cool blowing breeze.

Here you also get to identify and learn about the indigenous plants/trees and shrubs as you learn how they are traditionally used. The trail also provides space for meditation and relaxation under the beautiful shrubs, scenic and
serene spots for book readers and writers

Some exciting wildlife sighting include, Ngĩma (Colobus Monkeys) and Theerũ (Black Faced Monkeys), which are human-friendly and when treated with care, they love entertaining our guests. The art space is also home to a wide variety of birds (we encourage you to carry your binoculars for a breathtaking bird-watching experience as well as a variety of wildflowers.

After the short trail, the guest enjoys a pre-lunch drink while relaxing by the river as lunch is set up. At about 1 pm, enjoy signature Agĩkũyũ cuisine with our mouth-watering Ngwacĩ (sweet potatoes).
