Manguyo Forest Hike & Waterfalls Chase Trek Muranga, Kenya

Manguyo Forest Hike is a moderate trail located in Aberdare Forest, Kangema, Tuthu village in Murang’a County. One of the many trails of Aberdares yet so fulfilling. The Manguyo Forest Hiking trail lies about 134 Kilometres from Nairobi. The journey takes about 3 hours from Nairobi. The Trail is under the custodianship of the Kenya Forest Service.

Manguyo Falls Hike Details & Statistics

The Manguyo forest trek covers 16 kilometers if you start at a place called Karurumo. However, you can walk the Wanjerere forest office to Karurumo if you desire a longer hike. The distance from Wanjerere to Karurumo is about 4 kilometers.

Manguyo Hike Difficulty

The Hike is rated as Moderate. A good starting hike for hiking beginners and seasoned hikers alike. Being in the Aberdares ranges, the Manguyo forest trail is similar to close-by trails such as the Kihuri Forest, Gatangu Forest, and Njigari Forest. The Place of White Colobus Monkeys

Manguyo in local dilect; Kikuyu language “the place of White Colobus Monkeys,”. A white Colombus monkey in the Kikuyu dialect is called Nguyo. Hence the name Manguyo. Kikuyu People are the major inhabitants of this area. Kikuyu people would sometimes name places to the activity that would often happen in a place. Or, name a place with animals that would be seen around a place. For Example, Manguo Swamp. A haven for birdwatchers in Limuru that was home to many hippos due to the swampy field. The name is from the Kikuyu dialect “Nguo,” which is a Hippo. Hence Manguo.
